October 2020

President's Pen

By Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Here comes Q4, IndySHRM!

It's hard to believe the fourth quarter is upon us already. And, as challenging as 2020 has been for everyone, we still endure! It's the season when many organizations are preparing budgets and strategic plans for the coming year--likely after multiple pivots over the previous months. The same is true of IndySHRM as we're confidently moving our mission forward in 2021--and, with the help of newly elected Board members.

We recently emailed the Board slate to our Chapter membership, and I'm pleased to announce that the Chapter has voted to approve the following 2021-22 Board members:

  • President-Elect: Alona Bahler, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
  • Director of Diversity and Inclusion: Jill Clark, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
  • Director of College and Community Relations: Maggie Carter, aPHR
  • Director of Workforce Readiness: Molly Clark, SHRM-SCP
  • Director of Legislative Affairs: Kevin Johnson
  • Director of Volunteer Engagement: Bill Dykstra

Board Members remaining for the 2021 term include:

  • President: Keisha Underwood, SHRM-CP, PHR
  • Past President: Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP, PHR
  • Treasurer: Jennifer Lange, SHRM-CP, PHR
  • VP of Membership: Gerald Bush, SHRM-SCP
  • VP of Programs: Jordan Kinsler, SHRM-CP, PHR
  • Director of Communication: Melissa Harding
  • Director of Sponsorship: Jeannie Ambler, SHRM-SCP, PHR
  • *Director of Certification: This position will be left vacant when Alona Bahler assumes the Pres-Elect role in January, and therefore a replacement will be appointed by the Board for the remainder of the term (2021).

Your IndySHRM Board of Directors will be meeting within the next month to review and refresh our current strategic plan, and we look forward to sharing additional information soon. Thanks to all of our members for continued support as we advance our profession in Central Indiana.

Warm Regards,

Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP
President, IndySHRM

Earning Professional Development Credits (PDCs) – if you are SHRM Certified (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP), you may claim 10 PDCs after earning your Employing Abilities @Work Certificate.

UPDATED – REQUIREMENT CHANGE for PDC-Qualifying Work Projects

The COVID-19 crisis, during which HR professionals are tackling unprecedented challenges on short notice, has prompted SHRM to change the time frame requirement for work projects that qualify for professional development credits (PDCs) toward SHRM Recertification. The revised requirement now focuses only on the number of hours dedicated to a PDC-qualifying work project in the "Advance Your Organization" category and eliminates the stipulation of a minimum duration for the project.

One More Way to Earn PDCs

Remember, your annual National SHRM Membership qualifies for three (3) PDCs per year (and SHRM automatically loads this in your SHRM Portal).

Monthly SHRM Recertification Live Chats

If you are a SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential-holder, join SHRM to ask the SHRM Recertification Counselors any questions you have about SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP recertification - regardless of where you are in your recertification cycle. This is a great opportunity to learn how to make the most of the resources available to you and to clear up any areas of confusion. SHRM’s Recertification Counselors are here to help.

Live chats will happen the second Wednesday of most months at 2:00 pm ET (for 30 minutes).
