Hello, IndySHRM!

It's August already and that means your annual opportunity to attend the HR Indiana Conference has arrived! While it won't look quite the same this year, the conference committee is making this event into a compelling, virtual experience that you don't want to miss!

Board of Directors Spotlight

Keisha Underwood, President-Elect

Keisha Underwood is IndySHRM's President-Elect for 2019-2020. She will be taking helm as our Chapter's president in January of 2021! Keisha is Senior Vice President of HR for Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc.

She has over 20 years of HR experience and joined IndySHRM in 2000. She is a certified SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Keisha joined the IndySHRM Board of Directors in 2013 as the Vice President of Membership and later served as the Director of College & Community Relations. She also serves on the Indiana HR Conference Planning Committee as the Bookstore Chairperson.

Registration is Open for IndySHRM Virtual SHRM Certification Study Group

If you are planning to sit for SHRM’s Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) exam this year, don’t go it alone. Our IndySHRM SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP study group is an excellent way to add structure, accountability and a supportive peer network to your SHRM Certification exam preparation – in addition, IndySHRM offers one of the most affordable programs around!  Our IndySHRM study group sessions are facilitated by SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certified professionals who are not only passionate about helping others achieve their certification goals, but who are also subject matter experts in that particular HR discipline. 

Our IndySHRM SHRM Certification study group will meet once a week on Tuesday evenings for 11 consecutive weeks virtually via Zoom.

The cost for the IndySHRM SHRM Certification study group (which includes the 2020 SHRM Learning System hard copy booklets AND online/web based version of the booklets) will be:

  • $850 = current/active IndySHRM members
  • $949 = those who join IndySHRM that are National SHRM members (National SHRM membership number
  • required)…IndySHRM membership for 365 days at a special $99 rate and get the study group for the $850 member rate
  • $975 = those who join IndySHRM (membership for 365 days = $125) and get the study group for the $850 member rate
  • $1,100 = non-members

* $75 late fee will be added to IndySHRM SHRM Certification study group registrations received on/after September 1, 2020.

SHRM Certification - Winter Testing Window Applications are Being Accepted

The WINTER SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) exam application window opened on June 1, 2020 and exam applicants will be eligible for an early bird rate ($75 discount) though October 16, 2020 or the regular application deadline is November 16, 2020 for the WINTER December 1, 2020 - February 15, 2021 testing window.

SHRM Cares - Professional Development Grant

SHRM Foundation is excited to announce the latest Professional Development Grant, SHRM Cares. If you work in first responder services or essential businesses and are a SHRM member, we invite you to apply to this opportunity to enhance your skillset and stand out with a SHRM Certification. SHRM Process Change: Introducing Digital SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP Certificates

Effective June 1, 2020, all candidates who pass the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam will receive a digital certificate approximately four (4) weeks after passing their exam. These digital certificates will replace printed certificates that were previously mailed. Candidates will receive an email directing them to the “My Resources” tab in their certification portal to access the electronic PDF file.

While SHRM will no longer be printing certificates, they encourage passers to print and display their digital certificate. Additionally, passers may order a framed certificate or additional collateral through our third-party partner, The Award Group, (fees apply). An email with order instructions will be sent approximately two (2) weeks after score reports are received.

Employing Abilities @Work (an Opportunity to Earn an Employing Abilities @Work Certificate)

The SHRM Foundation, in partnership with the Workplace Initiative By Understood, has launched this initiative to strengthen the skills and abilities of professionals to hire, develop, advance and retain individuals with disabilities in their workplace.

This free, multi-faceted educational program will increase your knowledge and skills to hire, develop, advance and retain individuals with disabilities. This Certificate is an introduction to the benefits and implementation of disability inclusion in the workplace.

The Employing Abilities @Work Certificate is free and open to all. You do not need to be a SHRM member, and you do not need to hold a SHRM credential to earn this certificate. You will need to create a free account when you register to begin the program.

Earning Professional Development Credits (PDCs) – if you are SHRM Certified (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP), you may claim 10 PDCs after earning your Employing Abilities @Work Certificate.

It’s called HR Resource Spotlight and it gathers many SHRM resources related to a specific topic and makes them available in one easy, convenient location. UPDATED – REQUIREMENT CHANGE for PDC-Qualifying Work Projects

The COVID-19 crisis, during which HR professionals are tackling unprecedented challenges on short notice, has prompted SHRM to change the time frame requirement for work projects that qualify for professional development credits (PDCs) toward SHRM Recertification. The revised requirement now focuses only on the number of hours dedicated to a PDC-qualifying work project in the "Advance Your Organization" category and eliminates the stipulation of a minimum duration for the project.

One More Way to Earn PDCs

Remember, your annual National SHRM Membership qualifies for three (3) PDCs per year (and SHRM automatically loads this in your SHRM Portal).

SHRM Specialty Credentials – There Are Six (6) Currently

SHRM Specialty Credential educates individuals on specific learning objectives. This is done by participating in a series of learning events and passing an assessment to demonstrate comprehension of program learning objectives. You cannot recertify a specialty credential; after three (3) years, you must complete the learning events and pass the assessment to earn a new credential. Please spread the word and you are encouraged to obtain a SHRM Specialty Credential (and share with your team and/or network) in:

  • SHRM California Law HR Specialty
  • SHRM Talent Acquisition Specialty
  • SHRM People Analytics Specialty
  • SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty
  • SHRM HR Department of One Specialty
  • SHRM Inclusive Workplace Culture
