Getting Back to Work

Our Chapter's more than 1,000 members are being affected by this global pandemic in vastly different ways. Even within our own Board of Directors, some have been furloughed or sought new employment due to layoff, while others are scrambling to hire high volumes of contingency workers to meet unanticipated staffing needs related to this unusual time.

As we continue to progress through this pandemic, IndySHRM recognizes that our members represent employers that need to thoughtfully consider key factors for operating in a new normal. Our Chapter is committed to providing members with the resources they need to prepare for what a return to the workplace will entail.

To that end, in addition to the current virtual programming format we offer throughout the month, here are some new tools to equip you and your organization to lead through this paradigm-shifting event:

  • HR Indiana SHRM (our State Council) is excited to announce the remaining two webinars in a three-part series on Wellness. Gain insight on how to protect and grow your financial, mental, and physical wellness during what is a time of increased anxiety and uncertainty for so many. These webinars are FREE to everyone and will qualify for 1 CEU/PDC per webinar
  • SHRM just launched a new campaign on April 27th with the debut of a video entitled "SHRM Navigating COVID-19." This effort provides people and organizations with the latest workplace-focused research, expert guidance and practical tools to navigate this transitional period. Check it out at shrm.org/backtowork.

Be safe and well,
Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Share Your Feedback with SHRM National via the MAC Survey!

Let your voice be heard by the SHRM National Board of Directors! Our Chapter is proud to have a National Board who listens to our feedback and acts, as evidenced by several Board initiatives which have resulted from feedback through these surveys.

Your response to this survey will be compiled with those of other SHRM members and will be addressed in a report that our MAC representatives will make to the SHRM National Board of Directors in June. All responses will be anonymous.

UPDATED – REQUIREMENT CHANGE for PDC-Qualifying Work Projects

The COVID-19 crisis, during which HR professionals are tackling unprecedented challenges on short notice, has prompted SHRM to change the time frame requirement for work projects that qualify for professional development credits (PDCs) toward SHRM Recertification. The revised requirement now focuses only on the number of hours dedicated to a PDC-qualifying work project in the "Advance Your Organization" category and eliminates the stipulation of a minimum duration for the project.

One More Way to Earn PDCs

Remember, your annual National SHRM Membership qualifies for three (3) PDCs per year (and SHRM automatically loads this in your SHRM Portal).

Earn PDCs – SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program

Looking for another way to earn PDCs – check out the SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program – it is FREE and open to all HR professionals who are interested in learning about best practices to attract, hire and retain veterans. Anyone holding the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential may also receive 10 PDCs toward their recertification

SHRM Specialty Credentials – There Are Six (6) Currently

SHRM Specialty Credential educates individuals on specific learning objectives. This is done by participating in a series of learning events and passing an assessment to demonstrate comprehension of program learning objectives. You cannot recertify a specialty credential; after three (3) years, you must complete the learning events and pass the assessment to earn a new credential. Please spread the word and you are encouraged to obtain a SHRM Specialty Credential (and share with your team and/or network) in:

  • SHRM California Law HR Specialty
  • SHRM Talent Acquisition Specialty
  • SHRM People Analytics Specialty
  • SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty
  • SHRM HR Department of One Specialty
  • SHRM Inclusive Workplace Culture
