October 2019

President's Pen

By Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Welcome to Q4, IndySHRM!

Can you believe we're already in the fourth quarter of 2019?!? We're entering the time of year where many of our organizations are finalizing budgets and refreshing strategic plans for the coming year. The same is true of IndySHRM as we are making plans to continue to move our mission forward in 2020--and, with the help of newly elected board members!

We recently sent the board slate to our membership, and I'm pleased to announce that the Chapter has voted to approve the following 2020-21 board members:

VP of Membership: Gerald Bush
VP of Programs: Jordan Kinsler
Director of Certification: Alona Bahler
Director of Communication: Melissa Harding
Director of Sponsorship: Jeannie Ambler
Treasurer: Jennifer Lange

Board Members remaining for the 2020 term include:

President: Jessica Stephenson
President-Elect: Keisha Underwood
Past President: Leigh Crick
Director of Diversity and Inclusion: Erin Brothers
Director of College and Community Relations: Maggie Carter
Director of Workforce Readiness: Jesamyn Sparks
Director of Legislative Affairs: Suzanne Newcomb
Director of Volunteer Management: Bill Dykstra
Executive Director: Mark Records

Your IndySHRM Board of Directors will be meeting within the next month to review and refresh our current strategic plan, and we look forward to sharing additional information soon. Thanks  to all of our members for continued support as we advance our profession in Central Indiana.

Regards,
Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Accelerate Your HR Career - SHRM’s Competency Self-Assessment

SHRM has launched new member-only career resources can help fast-track your HR career development with easy-to-use tools that assess your HR skills and competencies and guide you toward further training and development. There are three (3) easy steps that will get you on your way to becoming the best HR professional you can be! First, Competency Self-Assessment, then Development Activity Wizard, and finally, Competency Development Plan.

Learn more about this new benefit here

Another Way to Earn PDCs

Remember, your annual National SHRM Membership qualifies for three (3) PDCs per year (and SHRM automatically loads this in your SHRM Portal).

SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program

Looking for another way to earn PDCs – check out the SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program – it is FREE and open to all HR professionals who are interested in learning about best practices to attract, hire and retain veterans. Anyone holding the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential may also receive 10 PDCs toward their recertification.

Specialty Credentials for HR Pros

Check out SHRM’s newest Specialty Credential Tool! A SHRM Specialty Credential educates individuals on specific learning objectives. This is done by participating in a series of learning events and passing an assessment to demonstrate comprehension of program learning objectives. You cannot recertify a specialty credential; after three years, you must complete the learning events and pass the assessment to earn a new credential. Please spread the word!

Monthly SHRM Recertification Live Chats

If you are a SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential-holder, join SHRM to ask the SHRM Recertification Counselors any questions you have about SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP recertification - regardless of where you are in your recertification cycle.
