A Commitment to Quality Programming

IndySHRM strives to continuously improve the quality and availability of compelling human resources programming for its membership. As we approach Fall, the Programs Committee and the IndySHRM Board of Directors will soon be inviting you to complete a short survey to gather feedback about our members' preferred direction for program content, location and format.

From preferences for geographic event location and time of day to your likelihood to take advantage of live streaming for events, your participation is critical in making our Chapter an exceptional resource for your professional development. Please join me in congratulating two IndySHRM members for their recognition at the recent HR Indiana SHRM Conference in August!

Jesamyn Sparks (Director of Workforce Readiness, IndySHRM), was nominated for the Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award.

Jesamyn stepped into IndySHRM’s Director of Workforce Readiness role in January 2019, after being an active member of the committee. She is currently taking part in IndySHRM’s Governance Committee which supports the board election process. She is professional, organized, communicative, responsive, and well-respected among board and chapter members. This year she has advocated for the JAG initiative on IndySHRM’s behalf, and continues to grow her committee.

Keisha Underwood (President-Elect, IndySHRM), was awarded the Conference Volunteer of the Year Award.

Keisha took on the challenge of running the conference bookstore when it was undergoing major change. She increased profits the first year by over $15,000. She has added more speaker books, leadership books and resources, along with the ever popular SHRM/HR swag. She also represented Indiana as a volunteer at the Annual SHRM conference in Las Vegas this summer.

New! Policy Changes to SHRM Recertification

For those with their SHRM Certification, SHRM formally announced on 07-29-19 (via email) several enhancements to the SHRM Recertification process. A brief recap:

Earn PDCs During the Grace Period – Effective 08-01-19, SHRM Certification holders who are working toward recertification can earn PDCs for activities they participate in through their grace period (the 60-day period between their certification end date and expiration date).

Immediately Begin Earning PDCs for the New Recertification Cycle When You Recertify Early – Effective 08-01-19, the new recertification cycle for SHRM Certification hold who recertify early will begin the NEXT DAY after they recertify. Their end date will continue to be on the last day of their birth month.

Carry Over a Maximum of 20 Credits to the Next Recertification Cycle – Effective 08-01-19, SHRM Certification holders who recertify with more than 60 PDCs in their account will be able to carry over up to 20 credits to their new cycle.

Reminder: In the Fall of 2018, SHRM announced there will no longer be a maximum limit on self-paced activities, in the ‘Advance Your Education’ category.

SHRM Certification – Winter Testing Window December 1, 2019 – February 15, 2020

 SHRM Certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) winter exam applications will be accepted May 13 – October 18 (with an additional $75 late application fee for applications between October 19 and November 9) for the December 1, 2019 – February 15, 2020 testing window.

Accelerate Your HR Career - SHRM’s Competency Self-Assessment

SHRM has launched new member-only career resources can help fast-track your HR career development with easy-to-use tools that assess your HR skills and competencies and guide you toward further training and development. There are three (3) easy steps that will get you on your way to becoming the best HR professional you can be! First, Competency Self-Assessment, then Development Activity Wizard, and finally, Competency Development Plan.

NOTE: If you are a SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certified member, you will receive one (1) PDC per year for each calendar year you complete the Competency Self-Assessment. Use it to evaluate how best to target your professional development efforts toward the 60 PDCs required to maintain your SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP credential over your three (3) year recertification period.

Another Way to Earn PDCs

Remember, your annual National SHRM Membership qualifies for three (3) PDCs per year (and SHRM automatically loads this in your SHRM Portal).

SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program

Looking for another way to earn PDCs – check out the SHRM Foundation Veterans at Work Certificate Program – it is FREE and open to all HR professionals who are interested in learning about best practices to attract, hire and retain veterans. Anyone holding the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential may also receive 10 PDCs toward their recertification.

Specialty Credentials for HR Pros

Check out SHRM’s newest Specialty Credential Tool! A SHRM Specialty Credential educates individuals on specific learning objectives. This is done by participating in a series of learning events and passing an assessment to demonstrate comprehension of program learning objectives. You cannot recertify a specialty credential; after three years, you must complete the learning events and pass the assessment to earn a new credential. Please spread the word!
