A Path Worth Exploration

Many of you have recently enjoyed the rest and relaxation that accompany the spring break season; however, returning to the hustle and bustle of work, school activities and other community commitments can be stressful. In our over-scheduled society, it's easy to put participation in development and volunteerism for your professional membership organization on the back burner.

You might think, "in a couple of years I'll have more time once I become successful at work..." or "my job has me too busy to make networking a priority." I hear you, and I know those statements. But consider this: according to The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor, happiness comes before success, not after it. Moreover, developing deeper social relationships leads to happiness and lowers stress.

IndySHRM's mission includes the promise to "serve and advance the Human Resource profession." Not only does it make sense to continuously champion the efforts of HR professionals in the workforce, but selfishly, striving after one's potential to help others is a great way to feel joy.

Whether you have time for committee work or just one hour in one random month, know that engaging in the work of our Chapter is a path worth exploration.

SHRM Specialty Credential

SHRM specialty credentials allow HR professionals to demonstrate targeted competence in several key areas while enhancing credibility among peers and employers. There are now three specialty credentials available – California Employment Law, Talent Acquisition, and People Analytics.

Veterans at Work Certificate

The SHRM Veterans at Work Certificate program was developed for HR professionals, hiring managers and front-line supervisors to help participants learn the value that skilled veterans bring to the civilian workplace. You can earn 10 professional development credits toward SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification through this program.

2019 SHRM Certification Scholarships

The Certification Scholarships application window is open! The SHRM Foundation will award 220 Certification Scholarships... The next deadline is April 15, 2019 and each scholarship is $750 for SHRM Certification exam and/or preparation (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP)!

Now Accepting Applications – 4th annual Barnes & Thornburg/Ken Yerkes Scholarships for HR Professionals 

The HR Indiana Annual Conference announces the 4th annual Barnes & Thornburg/Ken Yerkes Scholarships.

These are needs-based scholarships that will be awarded by HR Indiana and Barnes & Thornburg. There are two scholarships that will be awarded:

SHRM/Jobs for America’s Graduates Announces Local Partnership!

IndySHRM has been selected as a pilot site to launch an exciting regional collaboration with Jobs for America’s graduates (JAG), a national program dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people experiencing barriers to graduation and/or employment. As part of a multi-state effort including 17 SHRM local chapters and state councils in seven locations, HR professionals across Central Indiana are being tapped to provide employability readiness resources that match the needs of students, to help prepare them for the workplace.

IndySHRM at the Track

Milestone Contractors is happy to host IndySHRM’s "Networking Day at the Track" on Wednesday, May 15th, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!

IndySHRM membership is required, and registration is $10 per person which includes a buffet lunch and 2 drink tickets.

The suite (Tower Suite 13) will be open from 10 am-5:45 pm, with lunch served from 11:30 am-1 pm.  Garage and pit passes will be available for all guests.

Your ticket must be picked up in person from the MP Records office located at 8945 South St, Fishers, IN 46038 during normal business hours between May 6th-10th.  You will not be able to enter the gates at the IMS without a ticket.

We look forward to networking with you and having some fun!

SHRM has launched new member-only career resources can help fast-track your HR career development with easy-to-use tools that assess your HR skills and competencies and guide you toward further training and development. There are three (3) easy steps that will get you on your way to becoming the best HR professional you can be! First, Competency Self-Assessment, then Development Activity Wizard, and finally, Competency Development Plan.

NOTE: If you are a SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certified member, you will receive one (1) PDC per year for each calendar year you complete the Competency Self-Assessment. Use it to evaluate how best to target your professional development efforts toward the 60 PDCs required to maintain your SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP credential over your three (3) year recertification period.

Track your recertification credits with the SHRM Certification App

With the certification app, available for iOS and Android devices, SHRM credential holders can search and filter recertification activities by competency, date or location; keep track of them; and enter the appropriate PDCs! The app automatically uploads the PDCs you’ve obtained from National SHRM conferences, SHRM eLearning, and SHRM seminars etc. into your profile. The app will also notify you when you are ready to apply for SHRM Recertification!

The email address in your SHRM Recertification Portal must match the email address in your National SHRM Membership account for it to link up.
