January 2019

President's Pen

By Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Happy New Year! While I hope the holiday season gave you time to relax and reconnect with loved ones, it is now time to jump into the new year! I’m ready to embrace my new role as your 2019 IndySHRM President, and am honored to have the opportunity.

Our Board of Directors held our annual planning session in December and reflected on the vision of our chapter as we refreshed the three pillars of our strategic plan.

Transforming Human Resources throughout Central Indiana as the premier provider of human capital management resources.

Our updated strategic pillars directly support our ability to provide these resources:

  1. Develop and execute a plan for maintaining, retaining, and recruiting passionate board and committee members.
  2. Provide relevant, timely, SHRM BoCK™ (Body of Competency and Knowledge) aligned programs that people want to attend, and increase program attendance for each location in 2019.
  3. Launch membership journey to encompass member acquisition, onboarding and retention.

Each pillar has a number of goals and tactics planned to move us toward our chapter’s vision. I encourage you to consider deeper involvement with IndySHRM in 2019, and a great way to do that is to

  • volunteer for one-off events (such as our 4th annual student conference on Sunday, February 24th - stay tuned for sign-up details),
  • join a committee, or
  • consider running for a board position mid-year.

What will YOU do to make your next 12 months great?

Warm Regards,

Jessica Stephenson, SHRM-CP

Track your recertification credits with the SHRM Certification App

With the certification app, available for iOS and Android devices, SHRM credential holders can search and filter recertification activities by competency, date or location; keep track of them; and enter the appropriate PDCs! The app automatically uploads the PDCs you’ve obtained from National SHRM conferences, SHRM eLearning, and SHRM seminars etc. into your profile. The app will also notify you when you are ready to apply for SHRM Recertification!

The email address in your SHRM Recertification Portal must match the email address in your National SHRM Membership account for it to link up.

SHRM Certification Student Eligibility

FYI, students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s HR degree program at an educational institution aligned to SHRM’s curriculum guidelines are eligible to apply for the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exam.
