How did you hear/learn about IndySHRM?

I learned about IndySHRM (then HRACI) from my boss in 2000. I was fresh out of college and was new to the world of HR.

Why did you join IndySHRM?

An IndySHRM membership came with my HR position as a development tool since I was new.

How long have you been a member of IndySHRM?

I’ve been a member of IndySHRM since 2000.

In what programs, committees, events, if any, have you participated? Share your experience.

While attending the HR Indiana Conference in 2013, I ran into Tami Murphy who was the IndySHRM president at the time. She and I worked together while she was at her employer at the time and I didn’t realize she was the IndySHRM President. It was a nice surprise. She later reached out to me about joining the IndySHRM Board of Directors. I joined in late 2013 and I’ve been there ever since – as the VP of Membership. Thanks Tami!

How has membership in IndySHRM been of value to you?

My membership has been priceless! My HR network is wonderful. I’ve gained so many resources, but just as important, I’ve been able to be a resource to others. I’ve appreciated access to programs to gain credits towards my certification. I’ve learned about the relationship between the local chapters, the state council and national SHRM. They have all allowed me to expand my growth.

Would you recommend IndySHRM to a friend or peer? What would you say to others who might be considering joining IndySHRM?

Absolutely! Ask any member of IndySHRM who knows me well. They’ll tell you, I’m always ready to talk about IndySHRM and invite others to join. It’s a great place network and develop. I’ve seen so many members gain opportunities they may not have had from being a member. If you’re considering IndySHRM, don’t wait. Join today!
