Too busy for an ongoing volunteer engagement, such as being a full-time member of one of IndySHRM’s committees? Or, perhaps it is too difficult to regularly attend meetings and know your schedule a month in advance due to business travel or family commitments.

If this sounds like you, then please sign up to be notified of the one-time only volunteer opportunities in which our chapter periodically participates. While these events may be posted in a variety of areas such as the monthly newsletter and the blog, the most immediate and timely venue for learning about them is the IndySHRM Workforce Readiness Volunteer Opportunity Google Group.

Whenever the chapter needs to source volunteers to staff an event, we send a message to the subscribers of the Google Group. One of the nice things about a Google Group is that you may choose how frequently you wish to receive communication…i.e. as messages are posted, as a weekly digest email, etc. Plus, if your interests change you may unsubscribe from the group at any time.

The Workforce Readiness Committee is beginning to work with various organizations (non-profits and the military) to offer chapter members’ expertise to these organizations as their stakeholders need assistance with resume and interview preparation, networking etiquette, and other workforce readiness capacities.

Our committee will find the opportunities, but we will be unable to make a lasting impact unless we have more people interested in these short and sweet, one-time only volunteer opportunities. Please help us grow our list if you are interested in participating so that we may have a more meaningful and broad reaching impact on the central Indiana region.

Types of events include, but are not limited to:

  • 1-on-1 resume review and advice
  • Mock and informational interviews
  • Speaker panels to discuss your expert advice on networking, social media, interviewing, resume tips, expectations for the workplace once you have the job
  • Presentations on the above mentioned topics, i.e. speaker’s bureau

Please sign up to receive these alerts today by contacting Jessica Stephenson at jbryant78@yahoo.com. The first step is knowing about these opportunities; then, you may decide if you’d like to go the extra step to participate in some of them.
