Each year our chapter is fortunate to award a $2,500 scholarship to an individual that is pursuing a career in human resource management. The recipient is selected based on academic merit, commitment to the human resource profession, and recommendation by either their employer or a faculty member at their institution.

This year’s recipient is not only academically talented but has demonstrated leadership through her volunteer and community service activities, has received various awards and recognition, and as her previous employer stated, “has the drive to succeed and excel at any job she approaches.” We are proud to announce that Shamika Byrns has been awarded the 2010- 2011 IndySHRM Scholarship. Shamika will be a senior at IUPUI majoring in Organization Leadership and Supervision. In addition to being a full time student, Shamika works at Comcast Cable Inc. as a Forecast Analyst. She is involved in various volunteer activities such as the Indianapolis Chapter of Indiana Black Expo and is a mentor for young ladies between the ages of 14-22 who aspire to attain higher education. Shamika is currently a national SHRM member and has recently joined IndySHRM as a student member. She has decided to pursue a career in human resources because she would like to ensure that the best employees are hired for her employer. After graduation, Shamika would like to work as a human resource generalist at Comcast Cable Inc. Her long term career goal is to become Regional Vice President of Human Resources.

As you meet Shamika at future IndySHRM meetings and events, please make sure to congratulate her on her accomplishments and being our IndySHRM Scholarship recipient.

Shamika we wish you the best of luck in your senior year. We are sure that you will be successful in your future endeavors and hope that this scholarship will help you achieve your professional goals.
