MISSION

IndySHRM exists to engage human resource professionals by providing comprehensive and up-to-date resources and opportunities to build professional relationships that will enhance their effectiveness as HR leaders. IndySHRM is committed to advancing the human resource profession and the capabilities of all human resource professionals in central Indiana.

HISTORY

IndySHRM was founded in 1974 by a group of then, personnel professionals, as a means to provide professional support and learning opportunities to the local personnel community. Since then the chapter has undergone several transformations and has long been recognized as the voice of human resources in the central Indiana community.

In July of 2009, the Human Resource Association of Central Indiana (HRACI) changed its name to IndySHRM. SHRM is an acronym for Society for Human Resource Management. The local chapter’s updated brand and chapter name provides closer alignment with the parent association brand. SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management, representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries; the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the U.S. and subsidiary offices in China and India.

Supporting our student chapters; helping to guide and develop student leaders in HR who will transition with us to become future members and leaders of our Association, along with the organizations they ultimately support. An important component of IndySHRM, we foster partnerships with learning institutions; supporting student functions, scholarships, and internships as we promote awareness of our Association. Our goals are to provide a climate that encourages the HR students’ endeavors to learn and to grow in the field of HR, and to build long-term relationships as we develop the next generation of HR professionals.
IndySHRM promotes events where exchanges of business information, ideas and support are established and mutually beneficial relationships are built. Come together with fellow HR professionals in a number of venues to solve day to day HR problems, establish and grow professional relationships, benchmark on HR products, services, processes and structures. Using the IndySHRM member network is like having an expanded HR department right in your own office. These networking opportunities expand beyond the monthly chapter meetings as we engage with HR-focused special interest groups and local professionals that span many industries and specialties.
